Divriği coğrafik olarak Doğu Anadolu Bölgesi'nde yer alır. İlçe, Fırat nehrinin bir kolu olan Çaltı Çayı vadisi kenarında kurulmuştur. Denizden yüksekliği 1225 metredir. İlçenin yüzölçümü 2781,56 km karelik bir alanı kaplar Doğusunda İliç ve Kemaliye, batısında Kangal, kuzeyinde İmranlı ve Zara, güneyinde Arguvan, Arapgir, Hekimhan ilçeleri ile çevrilidir.
